FEAT: VW Type 3 1969

Good things come to those who wait... no, to those who work the shit out of it.

This is a car that has been in A-P Ruponen's family for a while. It belonged to his uncle back in the day. His uncle stored it to a warehouse in the 90's to wait for the better days. In this case to wait for A-P. For Antti-Pekka, this car was a keeper from day one. It had a tremendous amount of rust, but somehow the guy kept on going.

The first thing you'll notice is the big drop and the unusual choice of wheels. Both of these things do complement the 60's German classic quite well. The 3-piece OZ wheels came from Sweden, with the help of our fellow member, Sergey. It wasn't a straight forward task to fit these wheels, but gladly A-P kept his patience. The outcome is, in a lack of a better word, stunning.

For keeping the usability in mind, A-P decided to equip the Type 3 with air suspension. The parts were found partially from Lowtoys and the rest of them from online, such as eBay. For as old Volkswagen as this, the suspension needs quite a lot of custom work. The brackets, axle etc. we're customized.

It is hard to keep motivated for a such large-scaled projects like this. Fortunately A-P got this back on the road this year and I was lucky to see this in person for the first time at the season ending Tuulos meet. I can say that the outcome is more than worth every hour spent, fair and square. You really don't see them like this that often.

Like the great Jedi Master Yoda said: "Patience you must have my young Padawan". Keep motivated. It will pay in the end.
